Sergio Sorrentino/Machinefabriek - Vignettes (CD Fratto9 Under The Sky Records)

Thereís no denying that Dutch artist Rutger Zuydervelt, a.k.a. Machinefabriek, is an adept sculptor of contemporary ambient or minimalist electronic works, but given that he seems to churn out around 20 albums a year Iím not convinced anybody actually needs many of them. A keen collaborator too he can often be found dealing out refined atmospheric music alongside those largely of a similar disposition, such as Italian improv guitarist Sorrentino on the thirteen cuts here. The guitar accompaniment to the hazy electronics, grizzled melodic patterns and gentle ebbing and flowing is suitably restrained and feathery, rendering everything pleasant enough but not especially commanding.
